What Safety Components or Accessories are available for use with Selective Racks?

All Selective racking from RackUSA includes numerous safety features, but can be enhanced with various safety components and accessories to improve functionality, flexibility, and adaptability to different storage needs:

Wire Mesh Decking

Adds support to pallets and prevents smaller items from falling through rack openings.

Pallet Supports

Strengthen load-bearing capacity and improve stability for irregular pallet sizes.

Load Dividers

Organize inventory within racks by preventing comingling of cartons or loose materials from shifting, improving stability and storage efficiency

Rack Safety Panels w/ Wire Mesh

Provides rear and end of aisle protection against falling inventory, improving workplace safety while providing a physical barrier to prevent items from falling, reducing the risk of accidents.

Column Guards & Post Protectors

Reinforce upright frames against forklift impacts, minimizing structural damage.

End-of-Aisle Protectors

Shield rack rows from collisions, reducing damage in high-traffic areas.

Row Spacers & Cross Aisle Ties

Enhance rack alignment and structural integrity.

Aisle Safety Guides

Help direct forklift traffic in narrow aisles and pedestrian traffic, reducing collision risks and improving overall warehouse safety.

Load Capacity Labels

Ensure safe weight distribution by displaying rack load limits.

Carton Flow Systems

Improve material handling by enabling organized picking and retrieval.

Pallet Flow Systems

Utilize gravity-driven lanes to streamline inventory rotation and retrieval, enhancing efficiency

Push-Back Systems

Maximize storage density by allowing multiple pallets to be stored in deep lanes, improving space utilization.

Safety & Prevention Measures

Safety is essential when using racking and shelving. Key preventive measures include:

Configurations

Selective racking can be configured in various ways to optimize warehouse storage based on operational needs, available space, and inventory type. Here are the most common configurations:
Single-Deep Racking

The most standard configuration, allowing direct access to every pallet for efficient picking and retrieval.

Double-Deep Racking

Stores pallets two deep per row, increasing storage density while requiring deep-reach forklifts for access.

Back-to-Back Racking

Two rows of selective racks placed back-to-back, maximizing space utilization while maintaining accessibility.

Narrow Aisle Racking

Designed with reduced aisle widths to increase storage capacity while requiring specialized forklifts for maneuverability.

Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) Racking

Further reduces aisle space for maximum storage density, using turret trucks or order pickers for pallet handling.

Carton Flow Integration

Incorporates carton flow systems into selective racking for more efficient order picking and inventory turnover.

Tunnel Aisle Configuration

Creates passageways within racks for better access to deeper storage locations, improving workflow efficiency.

Customized & Hybrid Configurations

Tailored setups combining selective racking with other systems, such as drive-in racking or mezzanines, to suit specific operational needs.

Each configuration offers unique advantages depending on warehouse requirements.

FAQs

What is selective storage?

Selective storage is a warehousing system that provides direct access to each stored pallet. This method is efficient and flexible, making it ideal for warehouses with high product variety and palletized loads, simplifying operations and inventory management.

The load capacity depends on the design and materials. A typical rack system, 96 W x 42 D x 240 H with 4.5″ beams can support overall loads of up to ~35,000 lbs and 6,800 lbs per level depending on the material configuration, ensuring stability and safety for palletized loads.

The dimensions of a selective rack vary depending on your required storage needs. Common heights range from 6′ to 32′ as single units. Highly adjustable levels, spaced every 2″ in the center, allow for different pallet sizes and loads.
